U.S. Open of Surfing kicks off with junior event

The U.S. Open of Surfing kicked off this weekend in Huntington Beach, Calif., with U.S. Open Junior Pro initiating nine days of competition, culminating in the ASP Prime pro final on Sunday, August 8.

In semifinal action for the Junior Pro, Tanner Hendrickson earned the highest heat score of the day (15.54) against the surfer with the single highest wave score of the day, Miguel Pupo, who scored an 8.67. Conditions were marginal, with only small, one-to-three foot surf on tap.
