The third annual Maloof Money Cup West Coast skateboarding contest was held August 4 - 8, 2010. Here are the results of all the MMC OC events.
The third annual Maloof Money Cup (MMC) West Coast edition was this past weekend at the Orange County Fairgrounds and the skating was amazing. Heavy hitters at the event included Pierre Luc Gagnon, Bob Burnquist, Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, Leticia Bufoni, Alexis Sablone and an entire roster of skate luminaries.
The Vert competition had Pierre-Luc Gagnon, fresh from X Games domination winning his second Maloof Money Cup in the three years. The Mini Mega Ramp gap and quarrter pipe added another dimension to the competition; each skater had to shred that, then the competition advanced to the traditional vert. Sandro Dias landed the second 900 of the past two Money Cups when he landed a 900 on the Mini Mega ramp. PLG summed up his win, "Amazing two weeks. It's been a lot of work, but it's been fun, too. I'm speechless." His final run included a huge nollie bigspin heelflip that was as solid as Gagnon gets.
In the Women's Street Pro, Bufoni took the top spot among the same top three ladies from the X Games Women's Street. Bufoni landed tough tricks and glittered with a picture-perfect kickflip down the triple set and back Smith grind down the 9-stair rail. Her consistency in all the course areas got her the top spot over last weeks' X Games Street winner Alexis Sablone. Last year's MMC winner, Marisa Dal Santo came in a strong third.
The Men's Street had Chris Cole, who won Maloof last year and also this year's brand new NYC Maloof event in June, bringing home the bacon once again for his third consecutive Maloof title, narrowly edging out a visibly disappointed Nyjah Huston. Huston had an almost perfect score in the third section of the course, and looked like he was completely untouchable, landing 16 consecutive tricks – throwing down tricks he's never even done before in a competition.
Cole's tech, including a frontside 180 to switch front feeble grind, was trademark Cole. His scores in the first two sections helped him to come out in first place despite Huston's flawless performance. Cole said, "This is unreal. To win one Maloof Money Cup is a dream, to win three Maloof Money Cups is just insane."
In the best trick, Dave Gravette beat out last year's winner, Adam Dyet for the win with his 50-50 kickflip out on the rainbow rail over the volcano. Once he landed it, he sailed off for refreshments to celebrate.

About the Maloof Money Cup
The Maloof Money Cup is a first-class professional skateboarding event, begun in 2008. The event was founded by Joe and Gavin Maloof, whose family owns the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise and the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
This year was the first year for two Money Cup events, NYC and OC. The Maloof brothers also started the Maloof Skateboarding Assistance Foundation in 2007 to help athletes who suffer catastrophic skate-incurred injuries.
Anyone who was unable to attend or missed it live on FuelTV can catch the event on FOX, August 28 at high noon PT, 2:00 p.m. Central and 3:00 p.m. Eastern.
