James Stewart Vs. The World
James Stewart returned to outdoor motocross racing last weekend after a nearly two year hiatus and even though he's been off the bike for quite a while it's safe to say that his 3-DNF moto scores fell far short of expectations. In motocross it often seems that you're only as good as your last race, and when you're one of only two riders ever to complete a perfect season, it sets the bar pretty high.
According to Stewart, one of the several reason he decided to return to the Nationals was a supposed shot at joining the 2010 Motocross of Nations team, which was announced this weekend and does not include the #7. James is not happy about this and feels that he was lied to.

He has posted an open letter on his website that you can read here:

Right now it's a tough call. Andrew Short is a rock solid choice for the MX3 class. Shorty has been Mr. Consistency throughout his career and currently sits second in the standings to MX1 selection Ryan Dungey. Thunder Valley Raceway, site of the 2010 Red Bull Motocross of Nations is Short's hometown track and a place he always rides great.
However, Andrew Short simply does not have the blazing speed that James Stewart possesses. Even this weekend in Stewart's first moto back he finished 3rd while Short followed in 4th. The overall results told a different story though, with Short 4th and Stewart 11th.
It's the old Turtle vs. The Hare conundrum. Andrew Short is a sure thing; James Stewart is a wild card. If Stewart chooses to race the next three rounds there's a very good chance he could win all six motos. What will the "powers that be" have to say then? We know how James feels about the issue and we'll hear what Andrew Short has to say about it later this week.
